Products made from the porous quartz ceramics are subjected to rather stringent requirements in maintaining their airtightness. The paper presents results of studying gas permeability of the porous quartz ceramics, which are widely used in the thermally loaded aviation structure components. To conduct the experimental portion of the study, a unique laboratory setup was developed and constructed making it possible to determine the gas permeability coefficient of the studied material in the range of 1 x 10–20…1 x 10–8 m2. Using the standard methods, allowed obtaining experimental data on the quartz ceramics gas permeability taking into consideration the gas slippage effect in the ceramic pore space capillaries (Klinkenberg effect). The obtained data were verified using a structure made of the quartz ceramics. The obtained results could be used in design and development of the highly loaded quartz ceramic structures to forecast pressure drops in the internal volumes, as well as in formulating airtightness requirements for the aviation structures.
