The evolution analysis of gear teeth profiles including involute gears and the prediction of their durability are very important for the operation of autonomous systems. Unfortunately, failed drive components of such systems cannot be changed automatically because relationships between the gear wear and its life time are normally not known with desired accuracy. An algorithm for analyzing the evolution of flat gear wearing caused by abrasion is suggested. The algorithm is demonstrated on the example of the evolution of involute gearing. The obtained results can be used to assess and predict the reliability and durability of gears operating under normal and extreme conditions for a very long time and will be useful to the designers of new drives.
