Backlash Distribution Analysis in Planetary Roller-Screw Mechanism

A general algorithm for estimating the distribution of axial backlash between contacting threaded surfaces of screw and roller is described in the article. The algorithm is based on modelling the contacting surfaces that have two contact points and a pitch normally distributed along the screw and roller axes. An example of estimating axial backlash distribution for concrete values of geometrical parameters of the contacting threaded surfaces is given. It is shown that when pitch angles on the average diameter are the same, the axial backlash is at least a degree higher than the pitch tolerance.
