The precision of the gear shaft production has been analysed by the mathematical statistics methods. Calculations are based on the assumption that the diameter of a given part of the shaft is a normally distributed random variable. Using a sample from a given set of machine parts the estimations for the standard deviation are calculated and the correspondence of the theoretical tolerance is checked against the calculated one. In the conclusion a considered sample is checked to be random.
