An experimental study of the influence of various factors of turning (feed, speed, cutting depth and flank wear of the cutter) on the roughness of the cylindrical surface of a sample made of the 40Kh steel tempered to the hardness of 40 HRC was performed. The range of speeds and feeds for machining steel of the 40Kh type was determined using the method of mathematical planning of the experiment. Grinding was performed on a screw-cutting CNC lathe 16К20F3S32. To conduct the experiments, cut-in incisors with mechanical fastening of replaceable polyhedral plates were used. The VOK-60 cutting ceramic was selected as the material for the cutting part of the tool. The effect of insert wear on the results was minimized by changing the cutting face plate at each pass. Surface roughness was measured with a profilometer ТР200. The dependences of the machined surface roughness on the machining parameters were described. The conclusions were presented and recommendations were given on increasing the processing capacity.
