The substantiation of the problem relevance has been carried out. On the basis of a mathematical model of planar linkages with constant gear ratio the solution of the synthesis problem of mutually tooth profiles of the wheel and the rail tool by the relative velocity of the contact point is discussed. The cases of linear, constant and zero velocities have been considered in detail.
