Calculation of tape spring elastic characteristic (helical symmetric shell of open profile) at large displacements based on pure bending theory

The article describes a method for investigation of the tape spring deformed state, based on the assumption of pure bending of the spring middle surface (helical shell). The parameters defining the deformed shell geometry were found from direct minimization of the shell potential. For convenience of the deformation energy recording the transition to Gaussian orthogonal system of coordinates has been previously made. An example of the elastic characteristics construction for a conical tape spring strip with a straight path is presented.
