Numerical simulation of fuel supply systems with unit injectors

The requirements to reduce the negative impacts of vehicles on the environment pose the problem of improving fuel supply systems (FSS). Despite the fact that new technologies offer opportunities for new FSS, the design and testing of new designs is a complex technical problem. To solve this problem, a flexible and adequate mathematical model of the FSS needs to be developed. Even though a large amount of literature deals with diesel engine FSS modeling, little attention is paid to the modeling of unit injectors. In this article, mathematical models are developed and the performance of unit injectors with electromagnetic, piezoelectric and solenoid control valves is calculated. Comparative analysis of the characteristics of the fuel injection showed that the piezoelectric control valve allows for more flexibility to manage the processes of injection, higher accuracy to meter the fuel, and larger injection pressure to develop. The models can be used for analyzing not only existing but also new TPS being developed.
