The spacer grids designs for VVER have been analyzed. The tasks to be solved when designing a new cell-type mixing grid have been formulated. A pilot sample of the cell-type mixing grid is presented to perform a thermohydraulic performance research. The research procedure has been described and the experimental investigation results of the cell-type mixing grid pilot samples have been provided. Based on the investigation results a basic design of the cell-type mixing grid providing high mixing efficiency has been chosen.
