A device for gas forming of a sheet metal that comprises a die, a combustion chamber, and a cylinder with a piston is developed. Two cavities of the cylinder separated by the piston are connected with the die and the combustion chamber, respectively. The device provides oneside heating of a sheet metal piece to a prescribed temperature range and its subsequent deformation in the die cavity by applying the pressure of a high-temperature gas generated in the combustion chamber. To prevent the contact of the workpiece with the die before it is heated to the required temperature, the die cavity is fed with compressed air. The air pressure varies according to the pressure change in the combustion chamber. The operation process in the developed device is studied. The pressure variation laws in the combustion chamber and the die cavity are established. The optimum geometric parameters of the device ensuring its high efficiency are determined. The device is designed for sheet forming of complex parts primarily in the small-scale and pilot production.
