Modern approaches to compressor design for various applications are homogenized, which in some cases prevents the most efficient design. For example, for applications where the compressor operates for short periods, there are no design recommendations aimed at expanding the range of possible pressure ratios within a single stage. This paper, using the example of a two-stage KT6 compressor, demonstrates that the use of non-lubricated cylinder-piston seals, for which the friction zone temperature rather than the instantaneous gas temperature is the determining factor in performance, demonstrates the feasibility of using single-stage compressors at suction temperatures up to 320K. Furthermore, the operating time of an air-cooled compressor can range from 2 to 8 minutes. At lower temperatures, discharge pressures can be increased to 1.3 MPa. Thus, preliminary results from the analysis of intermittent compressor operation demonstrate the potential for developing recommendations for increasing the efficiency of such machines and simplifying their design compared to existing compressors.
