This paper considers the features of the kinematic characteristics of a helicoid working tool during hardening treatment by the helicoid surface plastic deformation method. The process is implemented by rolling the workpiece surface in the contact zone of the deforming element with the workpiece with a helicoid tool. The study is aimed at predicting the applicability of this method for finishing and hardening treatment of cylindrical parts, such as shafts and axles. The paper analyzes the kinematic parameters of the helicoid surface plastic deformation process in a Cartesian coordinate system, including a study of the components of the workpiece and tool movements (rotational, translational). Analytical dependencies characterizing the length of the deformation trajectory, the magnitude of the resulting velocity and acceleration are determined, which allows for targeted control of the process parameters and optimization of processing modes. The results can be used to improve the methods of hardening treatment and increase the performance characteristics of mechanical engineering parts.
