Laser ablation technology to prepare drilling of cooling holes in turbine blades

The paper deals with the technology of preparation for cooling holes drilling in turbine blades of jet engines. The technology is based on the removal of the ceramic layer by laser ablation from areas intended for the subsequent electrical erosion drilling. The conducted experimental tests confirm the applicability of this approach and allow to perform drilling as the final operation, thus having achieved the required quality of holes.
