Alcohol Fuels for Diesel Engines

The relevance of the article is determined by the need to replace traditional petroleum motor fuels with alternative fuels derived from non-petroleum raw materials. The most promising alternatives include various alcohol fuels. Their widespread use will not only allow replacing petroleum fuels but will also significantly reduce emission of harmful components of exhaust fumes. The analysis of physico-chemical properties of the alcohols that can be used as motor fuels is presented in the article. Methods of working process management in internal combustion engines are considered, particularly those in diesel engines working on alcohol fuels. An experimental facility for investigating various alternative diesel fuels is described. The results of experimental investigations of diesel engines working on blends of petroleum diesel fuel and ethanol, as well as vegetable oils are presented in the article. It is shown that smoke opacity of the exhaust fumes can be considerably reduced when a diesel engine works on these blends.
