Performance tests of a diesel locomotive with electronic throttle control

One of the main characteristics of diesel engines is diesel fuel economy defined by the fuel consumption or engine efficiency. The problem of reducing the fuel consumption is complicated by the multi-mode operation of engines of shunting locomotives. This problem can be solved by implementing electronic fuel injection systems in diesel engines. The article describes an experimental electronic throttle control system designed for a D50-type diesel locomotive (6 ChN 31,8/33). The results of large-scale performance tests of ChMEZ diesel locomotives with a standard fuel control system and experimental electronic fuel injection system are presented for the first time. It is shown that implementing the electronic fuel injection system reduces operational fuel consumption by 8...11%.
