The article deals with the analysis of existing types of metallurgical cored wire from the time of its creation to the present day. The structures of the outer jacket profiles, their advantages and disadvantages are considered. The performance criteria of cored wire are given based on the carried out analysis. The general scheme of the cored wire production and main differences of production lines are shown, as an example, a construction of the Bauman MSTU production line is provided.
