The possibility to use the cutting plates has been investigated based on the magnitude of wear on the rear side of the cutting plate from synthetic corundum (synthecor) and the brittle strength of the crystal. The experiments substantiate the optimal choice of process conditions during the fine edge cutting machining of nonferrous metals and alloys by corundum cutting plates, with a cutting tool having the highest durability. The geometry and orientation of the cutting plate from synthekor are also well founded with regard to wear. The effect of the wear resistance increase in the cutting plates from synthekor has been experimentally proved when applying a light source both in the dry and lubricating and cooling technological environments.
