The article considers a method of a workpiece surface hardening by machin ing using a macrodeformation process. The opportunity to create a hardened macrorelief on the surface of a steel workpiece is shown. The method of harden ing is realized due to high temperatures created in the macro-deformation pro cess zone along with formation of quenching structures.
