In the field of manufacture and operation of steel vessels and equipment there are certain standards that establish some requirements to the welds quality including tolerances for size and type of welding defects. However, in practice the presence of unacceptable welding defects do not always bring to the limit state of a design. Conducted experiments on the defective welded samples destruction and the results analysis from strength reliability approach proved that the normative documents contain unnecessary large values of tolerances on welding defects.
