Forming rational route sheets for manufacturing machine parts

Routing is the basic design decision in the preproduction of machine parts. The routing algorithm synthesis problem has not been methodologically resolved yet. The most important aspect of this problem is to determine the number of manufacturing steps, especially for procedures performed on modern numerically controlled machining centers. In this study, an approach for determining the sound number of manufacturing steps is suggested. The possibility of a significant reduction in complexity of the design process by preselecting the nomenclature of manufactured parts is first proved. The proposed approach is based on the quantitative assessments of technological similarity. The results of research will be useful for developing effective synthesis methodologies including automated routing algorithms for manufacturing machine parts.
