The paper deals with a comparatively new for Russia method of powder metallurgy that makes it possible to implement essentially waste-free technology of manufacturing articles from sintered blanks, which provides sufficient saving in metal consumption. The implementation of this technology enabled a number of Urals industrial enterprises to reach Metal Use Efficiency (MUE) equal to 0.8-0.95, which brought about product cost reduction as well as saving of payroll, energy and tooling. Anti-friction qualities of powdered materials, dependence of their operating characteristics on manufacturing technology and peculiarities of starting materials are noted in the paper. Direct relationship of the processes with ecologization of machine-building production through reduction of metal- and energy consumption, minimization of wastes and ecological risks is also demonstrated.
