Modern aircraft are exposed to significant thermal loads in operation. It is impossible to create them without experimental testing of the heat-protective materials and design elements, which requires the thermal testing benches. The paper provides a design and layout option of the radiation heating facility that operates on the principle of concentrating radiation from a large number (up to 300) of the serial halogen ball lamps. It proposes to use the serially produced OSRAM halogen ball lamps as the radiation source. A technique based on solving the geometric optimization problem was developed to determine the facility design parameters. Results of applying the technique show that a facility using lamps with the standard reflector due to their small focal length is unable to provide a heat flux of more than 4·105 W/m2 on the surface of a sample with the diameter of 75 mm. In order to increase the incident radiation flux level, the paper considers an option of the facility equipped with reflectors having a significantly larger focal length. Using them makes it possible to achieve the incident heat flux of 10·105 W/m2 on a sample with the diameter of 100 mm.
