The Analysis of Edge Broadening in the Process of Parison Tube Swaging

The paper deals with the stress state analysis of the edge section of a thin-walled parison tube at the exit of a conic swaging die. The stress distribution law in the deformation zone of the edge section is determined on the basis of a joint solution of the equilibrium equations and Saint-Venant's yield criterion. The obtained relations, combined with the formulae for the component of free bending and straightening at the exit of the swaging deformation zone, make it possible to obtain the maximum radius (diameter) of the parison tube edge section at the exit of a die. The effect of the radius of transition of the conic section into the cylindrical one on the given radius is shown. A specific method is developed that can be used to calculate the difference between the maximum radius of the edge section and the radius of the main part of the cylindrical section of the forged piece when designing the manufacturing process. To verify the obtained dependences, a corresponding experiment was performed and the results were compared with the calculated values.
