Reducing the severity of road traffic accidents (RTA) is one of the most important problems. Particular attention is paid to improving and evaluating the passive safety of buses. According to UN-ECE Regulation No. 66, the passive safety can be evaluated on the basis of computer simulation. One of the most promising trends in the development of body structures is the use of sandwich panels. In this paper, a computational-experimental technique for evaluating the passive safety of sandwich panel bodies is considered. The results of its implementation are presented. To prove the validity of the numerical models, full-scale experimental studies of the overturning of the entire bus body made of sandwich panels, as well as individual sections and elements, are performed. The properties of the materials used for manufacturing sandwich panels are determined experimentally. The results of calculations are in good agreement with the experimental data.
