One of the most important tasks of engine development is improving its environmental parameters. Modern requirements for passenger car engines enforce testing in transient conditions as close as possible to the operating conditions. Mathematical modeling of reciprocating internal combustion engines is a convenient and effective means of improving the old and creating new models of engines. Most programs can only simulate the steady-state operation of the engine. The architecture and limitations of the programs to calculate transient operating conditions make it impossible to introduce new algorithms and calculation methods in the codes. The solution to this problem may be the development of own program, which simulates a joint operation of the engine and the vehicle. The article describes a mathematical model for simulation of multi-cylinder engine, transmission and vehicle, which allows calculating transient cycles of engine operation. At present, the developed mathematical model does not allow calculating the emission of harmful engine emissions. This problem will be solved in the future. The presented mathematical model reflects the relationship between the engine and vehicle models, and the ability to correctly calculate the speed of the engine crankshaft when the vehicle is tested in a standard driving cycle.
